Everyone was right. THE FASTEST YEAR of my life just flashed before my eyes. I recall the day I went into labor and every second of the time leading up to the birth of our baby Dom, you can read his Birth Story HERE. It feels like it as just yesterday, and how cliche of me to say that? I remember bringing him home and crying because he was growing up to fast and here we are now 365 days later.

Dom’s First Birthday party was a small family event, hosted by Tom and I at our home. The theme was “The wonderful things you will be,” based off of THIS book. I am forever grateful to the talented Destiny of Destiny D Photography for capturing such a special day for us. She is offering all my local friends money off on a session if you mention my name (Nina) to her! Having her was SO important to me. I didn’t have to worry about missing any photos of Dom’s special day; she made sure she got pictures of all family, food, cake and more. Check out her Instagram HERE!

I spent several hours, 2 nights prior, on this 8.5 foot balloon arch with the most incredible balloons from Qualatex Balloons. These balloons are such great quality that they are still holding up in my kitchen (7 days later, and yes I haven’t taken them down because …MOM LIFE). I blew them up 2 days early because the longer you let balloons sit they will get that “matte” look. I made the garland using THIS kit, which worked perfect for the base…then I added balloons by tying, twisting and even duct tape (see IG highlight called “party prep”). I think I used about 200 balloons.
The STUNNING wood lettering is from the talented Courtnee who owns Shimmer and Stain. She made the quote for the wall and his “one” cake topper.

I made envelopes with Dominik’s future milestones on them and had guests write him words of wisdom for that day/situation. You can download it FREE HERE.

Floral is faux and all stems are from Micheal’s, I just made my own arrangements.
For the food I wanted to do a giant charcuterie board across my 7.5 foot island. BIG shout out to my mom and mother in law for making my vision come to life with this board. I showed them a picture and said “no white space.”

Eastern Europe tradition is to have your child’s first haircut on their first birthday and not before by an important person in the child’s life. His “sisani kum and kuma” were Mateo and Emily. Although we didn’t give Dominik his first haircut, he did get a few of the little strands he has cut off and put into a keepsake box.

His smash cake is the same one I made for his Cake Smash Session I did with him a week ago. You can see the full Cake Smash, including recipe, HERE.
